August 25th, 2015 Cracks in Walls, Ceilings, and Trim.

Over the past several years, we have gotten hundreds of phone calls from customers asking us to fix cracks in their ceilings, walls, and trim. The most frequently asked questions, however, is “Why are my ceilings, walls, and trim cracking?”

Based on our 17 years of experience (combined with many, many discussions about this issue with leading architects and general contractors in the industry) we have found that two factors contribute to the answer: these stubborn cracks surface due to movement caused by either slow settling of the house and/or seasonal shrinkage and expansion as a result of cold and heat.

Cracks due to temperature variation are more prevalent when sudden weather changes occur. If you pay attention to your home, usually you will start to see the crown molding or other moldings throughout the home cracking during a sudden change from moderate weather into extreme cold weather. This is especially true for residents of the New Orleans metro area.

In newly built homes houses settling is prone  to occur within the first few month–and, in some cases, the first few years.

July 25th, 2015 Kitchen Cabinets Painted with Latex Paint

In this kitchen cabinet project we used Benjamin Moore Advance Latex. Waterbased latex was used in this particular home because of its extremely low odor, which is one of the best aspects of a latex paint product.  When repainting cabinets proper de-greasing, sanding, and priming are essential steps to ensure the longevity of any kitchen cabinets. Once all the surface preparation is complete, the next and final step is the application of the finish paint. Two coats of finish paint were applied to the kitchen in the photo left of the page.

Why should I paint my cabinets?

Over the years we have found that one reason people choose to paint cabinets is that they want to update their kitchen without going through the trouble of removing and reinstalling an entire kitchen.  Another good factor is that painting cabinets is far less expensive than buying new cabinets all together. It is also a faster process.

Walls and Ceilings Cover

Jason Bertoniere, LLC was featured in the June 2015 issue of Walls and Ceilings Magazine (a national drywall and other trades publication that covers many aspects of the construction industry) for its drywall Level-5-Finish work.

In this article, Jason Bertoniere, LLC discusses New Orleans architecture and its historic homes and neighborhoods. We emphasize the significant role that niche, skilled and accountable subcontractors play in the upkeep and preservation of these architecturally rich homes.

As a result, our focus has been (and still is) to establish our company as the go-to contractor for specialty finishes such as Level-5-Finish and decorative painting.  This is how we can better service our customers and their beautiful homes.
