September 25th, 2019 Sherwin Williams Color of the Year 2020

Sherwin Williams just announced its 2020 color of the year, and we could not be more excited! Naval SW 6244 is an exquisite blue. In spite of its boldness, this gorgeous neutral calls for quietness and reflection. It evokes feelings of tranquility, calmness, and order—a much needed state of mind in today’s ever ending  go, go, go environment.

Inspired by the iconic 1920s, this rich, deep navy blue has a retro aura surrounding it. Like the 1920s, this hue was designed to galvanize a new decade full of boldness, daring, and forward-thinking.

Naval SW 6244 has the ability to either give a space an incredibly calming feeling or it can explode with energy.  You can enhance one feeling over the other with lighting and light fixtures, by adding texture to your room, and by your furniture choices. The sky is the limit!

August 23rd, 2019 6 Ways to Maximize your Space with Paint

Are you feeling claustrophobic in your home? Tiring of your shoebox-sized apartment? Is your home’s old-world charm no longer making up for its tiny living spaces? In New Orleans, a city full of historical homes dating hundreds of years, protecting the integrity of space is always a priority. However, in century-old home design, some rooms dwarf in comparison to their modern equivalents. Pint-sized bathrooms, cramped kitchens, and barely-there bedrooms force us to juggle historical integrity and modern needs for space. Before you start tearing down walls or browsing classified ads for a new housing situation, consider maximizing your space with paint! While painting your walls does not actually increase square footage, using the right shades and techniques can make your space appear bigger.

July 25th, 2019 Exterior Painting: How Do You Know When Is Time To Repaint?

It happens to all of us. You come home from work and your entire house looks like it is actually starring you down. But you are just not really sure whether it is time to paint or not. So how can you actually know? There are a few signs that you will tell you when it is time.

Chalky Residue

One of the most obvious signs that would point towards “it is time to repaint the exterior of your home” is chalky residue on your painted surfaces. All you have to do is run your hand over any existing painted areas and if it leaves color on your hand it means that the resin is no longer holding together, thus letting you know that it is definitely time to repaint the exterior of your home.

April 29th, 2019 How to Pick Interior Painting Colors

Unless you are a professional decorator or know exactly what you want, picking interior painting colors can certainly become overwhelming very quickly.  Even for a painting contractor who is exposed to hundreds of different colors, choosing one is a bit of challenge.

Here are some tips on how to pick the right paint color for your interior painting project:

1. There are two factors to consider before thinking of an actual color.  You should consider how you want to feel in the room and what message you want your room to give.

A. If you tend to shift towards warm colors like reds, oranges, and yellows, keep in mind that they express fun, passion, happiness, playfulness, fire, and vibrant and lustful feelings and emotions.

November 14th, 2018 Benjamin Moore Announces Color of the Year 2019

It’s official. 2019 is the year of the neutral! In contrast to last year’s BOLD favorite, Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year 2019 Metropolitan AF-690 evokes neutrality and balance. Last year, we saw bold shades of deep crimson and rich cerulean as industry favorites. This year, complete with its own palate of complementary shades, Metropolitan AF-690 is a utilitarian favorite. This rich grey easily translates to any home space. Described as “not arresting or aggressive,” Metropolitan AF-690 diverges from Color of the Year choices from years past as a versatile shade. This true neutral, charcoal grey pairs well with any shade, creating a canvas for bold accents and furniture or a more neutral palette.

September 28th, 2018 How Paint Can Preserve History

New Orleans celebrated its 300th birthday this year. In the city’s 300 years of history, several distinctive styles of architecture found their way into the Big Easy. Grand, off-white homes with undertones of grey evoke the beauty of French chateaus. Warm brickwork, broad porches, and towers nod to the British Queen Anne style of architecture. Rectangular, towered homes in shades of earth tones characterize the Italianate style. And crisp, true white, columned mansions speak to Green Revivalism. With century-old homes, care, expertise, and a very gentle touch help us preserve history. In a city built on a swamp that has survived hurricanes, floods, and dramatic temperature changes, historical preservationists work hard to combat the elements and preserve the character of historical homes.

July 20th, 2018 How to use BOLD Color

Bored of this seasons neutrals? You’re not alone. A study by a major paint company found that 58% of Americans  want to switch out their neutrals for something bolder. While we love the classics and can always recommend a classy and beautiful off-white or beige, sometimes you need to spice things up. We love creating bright and beautiful spaces with vibrant colors. Adding a bold color to your walls can liven up a dull space and create something fresh and dynamic. These pops of color can elevate tired decor and allow your space to take on a distinct personality. Bright yellow invites warm and sunny feelings. And a bold black makes for a dramatic and sophisticated backdrop. However, a little goes a long way when you want to go bold. And knowing which colors will work with your space, lighting, and furnishings takes an expert eye. We have a few tips for how to brighten up a space and still keep it classy. Here’s your how-to-guide on bold interior colors.
