April 29th, 2019 How to Pick Interior Painting Colors
Unless you are a professional decorator or know exactly what you want, picking interior painting colors can certainly become overwhelming very quickly. Even for a painting contractor who is exposed to hundreds of different colors, choosing one is a bit of challenge.
Here are some tips on how to pick the right paint color for your interior painting project:
1. There are two factors to consider before thinking of an actual color. You should consider how you want to feel in the room and what message you want your room to give.
A. If you tend to shift towards warm colors like reds, oranges, and yellows, keep in mind that they express fun, passion, happiness, playfulness, fire, and vibrant and lustful feelings and emotions.
B. Cool colors like greens, blues, and purples, on the other hand, evoke feelings of relaxation, meditation, calmness, creativity, spiritually, and prestige.
C. Lastly, there are browns, whites and blacks. Browns are associated with the Earth and create a welcoming, and friendly and family-oriented environment. If you like the feeling or purity, freshness, and cleanliness, then whites are your colors. Whites will make the room feel peaceful, which will induce a place perfect for thinking and reflection. And finally, black. When we think of black in terms of a paint color, we cannot picture many options. However, black has a very elegant look if used in the proper house and room. For example, black looks amazing in powder rooms, specially if done in a high-gloss paint such as Fine Paints of Europe.
2. Lighting is everything. As we discussed many times before, lighting is a key factor to keep in mind when choosing an interior painting color or anything related to interior painting–period. If your room is on the darker end, than choosing a cool or white color will help your room become brighter instantly.
3. Look for inspiration. With internet at our finger tips, finding inspiration could not be easier. There are thousands of decorating websites and social networks sites to search for ideas. 4. Test out the color. Once you have decided how you want to feel and what you want to inspire in others, you have considered lighting options, and have found several ideas to work from, it is time to do this one last step: ask your painting contractor for 2′ by 2′ samples to be painted in the room. Once the samples are up, look at them at different times of the day to see how lighting changes the colors, see how it feels and looks with your floors, furniture, and art, and sleep on it before you make a final decision.
I hope this article is helpful and don’t forget to have fun when choosing your interior paint color!
